AM ALBUM REVIEW: Before we discuss the inner workings of Future Sons and Daughters, AM’s new album, we must acknowledge a ridiculous, unthinkable fact; this new album was produced by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields) and was recorded in Elliott Smith’s old house – no I did not stutter. I’m sorry, that’s just so awesome. Imagine the positive (in Elliott’s case, negative) energy flowing through that house! It makes sense that such a great album would come out of that scenic shantytown.
Tracks like “It’s Been So Long” and “Fortunate Family Tree” add some Indie folk loving to the album. Whereas, “Grand Opinion” and “A Complete Unknown” bring us back to a time long, long ago, where dreaded hippies in polyester shirts and long flowing skirts danced around California. Future Sons and Daughters is a blast from the past, infused with crisp sounding modernized trippy shoegazey backbeats. It’s strange, you can’t really pigeonhole this band too much, AM seems to be inspired by a lot of different styles of music. Maybe that’s why it sounds so good!- WRUV Review
