5 STARS UK Sunday Express

31.08.2010
09:10

“AM has made one of the great pop albums of the year.  Crammed with clever hooks, gorgeous melodies and an atmosphere of chiming Sixties melodrama it recalls spaghetti westerns and Brian Wilson in just about equal measure. It’s almost fruitless to pick out individual tracks but “ITs Been So Long” , “Darker Days” and “Leavenworth” will all melt your soul. An Album to fall in love with.” – 5 STARS, UK Sunday Express (Martin Townsend)

4 STARS Q Magazine UK

23.08.2010
09:55

Check out September’s Q Magazine from the UK

“AM displays a rare talent, juggling everything from steamy tropicalia, to acoustic ballads, to shimmering ’70′s pop.”

Future Sons & Daughters (Album Review)

Indie Exotica from AIR-approved singer-songwriter.

Born in Tulsa, raised in New Orleans and now based in LA’s hipster enclave Silverlake, AM shares the same eclectic influences and thriftstore wardrobe as fellow West Coast oddball Beck. Not a comparison to be made lightly, but his debut displays a rare talent, juggling everything from steamy tropicalia (Jore Ben) to acoustic ballads (Leavenworth) to shimmering ’70s pop (Self Preservation), all under the watchful eye of The Magnetic Fields’ Charles Newman.  With one Cuban heel already in the door thanks to a a recent UK tour with AIR, it’s only a matter of time before AM’s entry into pop’s arrival lounge.  - Paul Moody, Q Magazine, 4 STARS

RELIX MAGAZINE: Review

01.06.2010
11:41

Interesting… Have you seen June 2010 issue of Relix Magazine?

“AM’s retro-sounding rock conjures up images of Los Angeles in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but never seems rehashed. These songs are thoughtful but never brooding. AM belongs alongside musicians like Eels mastermind Mark Oliver Everett.”- Relix Magazine, June 2010

AM – Tonight on MTV

15.03.2010
10:13

TONIGHT if you are on the West Coast and Central Time Zone, AM’s new Self Preservation music video will make its MTV debut on the hit show Subterranean on Tuesday Night/ Wednesday morning, March 16th at 2 am E.S.T.  (NYC Time) 11pm P.S.T. (Calfiornia Time)  Shot on HD by director Blake West,

Human instincts for survival and self preservation run deep. AM wrote this song during the worst financial depression America has ever seen.

On the day of the music video shoot, AM and the band got word that Michael Jackson had passed away and they all felt the irony of shooting a video the day that the “king of videos” has died.

AM said, “With such a heavy subject matter we wanted the video to have a playful element to it. We decided to have the whole band playing “live” and juxtapose the performance against some old archival footage…. educational, government and union propaganda films from the 1950’s.”

“Self Preservation” is from AM’s new album Future Sons & Daughters produced by Charles Newman. Newman was simultaneously producing AM’s album and also The Magnetic Fields’ new album “Realism” in Los Angeles and NYC last year.

SELF PRESERVATION LYRICS

every now and then you wonder what went wrong

short-term memory sings the latest song

but over time the many lines were drawn

forcing everyone to a place where they belong

we know by now

it’s hard to turn this around

but like the leaves change

we just have to rearrange

in order to get by

friends and lovers were never approved to provide

but a parent is anyone showing you how to survive

if there’s no game then there’s no win or lose

but as it stands now it’s got to be me or you

we know by now

it’s hard to turn this around

but like the leaves change

we just have to rearrange

in order to survive

we know by now

it’s hard to turn this around

but like the leaves change

we just have to rearrange

in order to get by

The Deli Features AM

08.02.2010
16:54

CD of the Month at The Deli Magazine- Future Sons & Daughters

Singer/songwriter AM isn’t a stranger to having left his musical mark right under your nose; his last LP Troubled Times had every track licensed to all sorts of projects on television and film, an impressive feat not done since Moby’s mega-hit Play. With that kind of cred, AM has already proven a strong viability with most any audience, but without the necessary weight that comes in being a well-recognized mainstay. That’s about to change with his latest LP Future Sons & Daughters, a fully developed snapshot of AM in the context of, not just the single, but the lost art of the album. Produced by Charles Newman (The Magnetic Fields), this lush and multi-faceted pop work is a testament to AM’s love of retro radio, analog warmth and laser-precise melodies. Nods range from ’60s Detroit to ’70s Philly, but intends to be current with a modern palette in production.  Highlight track “Fortunate Family Tree” revives roots melody awash with steady organs, loose snares and hallucinatingly wavey lead guitar lines, all signs that this is a worthy trip to a past sound, sans the cringing generally associated with homage attempts. This is pop music for the refined ear, or, rather, the ear that remembers what pop music was really always supposed to be. -Hugo Gomez
